About This Tool
You have an A0 poster and an A4 printer. Printing to fit produces something the size of a postcard. Posterising goes the other way: the large page is divided across a grid of ordinary sheets that you assemble into the full-size result.
The overlap setting is what makes it work in practice. A few millimetres of shared content along each edge gives you something to align when taping the sheets together - without it, matching the seams exactly is near impossible.
Choose the grid to match your output size: 2 by 2 sheets for a poster twice as wide and tall, 3 by 3 for larger. Alignment marks are printed in the overlap so the joins line up.

How much overlap should I use?
5 to 10 mm. Enough to align and tape, not so much that you waste printable area.
Do I get alignment marks?
Yes, printed in the overlap area so you can match the sheets precisely.
Will the print be at true scale?
Yes, provided you print at 100 percent with no fit-to-page scaling in the print dialog. That setting is the usual cause of a wrong-size result.
How is this different from N-Up?
N-Up puts many pages on one sheet. This spreads one page across many sheets - the opposite operation.
