Scan an open book and you capture two pages as one wide image. Read it on a tablet and you are either zooming and panning constantly or squinting at two pages at once. The document needs each spread cut down the middle.
This divides every page along the axis you choose. A vertical cut splits a landscape spread into two portrait pages. A horizontal cut suits documents printed two-up on a sheet. You can also divide into more than two parts for four-up layouts.
The cut position is adjustable, because the gutter of a book scan is rarely exactly centred. Nudge the split line until it lands in the gutter rather than through the text.
