About This Tool
PDFs were designed to be final, which is exactly why editing one is awkward. Most of the time you do not need to rewrite the document - you need to mark it up: highlight the clause that matters, add a note explaining why, fill in a date that was left blank, or black out an account number.
This editor gives you those tools directly on the page. Draw highlights over text, add free text anywhere, drop in rectangles and arrows to point at something, attach comments, insert an image such as a logo or a photo of a signature, and search the text layer to find what you are looking for in a long document.
Redaction is a real removal, not a black rectangle laid on top - the underlying text is taken out so it cannot be copied back out of the file. That distinction is the one that gets organisations in trouble.
How to Use
Open your document
Drop in the PDF. It renders page by page with a toolbar down the side.
Pick a tool and mark up the page
Highlight, text, shape, comment, image or redact. Click or drag directly on the page where you want it.
Adjust what you added
Select any annotation to move, resize, recolour or delete it. Use search to jump to the next place that needs attention.
Save the edited PDF
Download the result. Annotations are written into the file and redactions are applied permanently.
Use Cases
Reviewing a contract
Highlight the payment terms, add a comment questioning the notice period, and send it back without printing anything.
Filling a form that has no fields
A scanned application form has no interactive fields. Add text boxes over the blanks and type into them.
Redacting before disclosure
Black out account numbers and home addresses so the underlying text is gone, not just hidden.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I edit the original text of the document?
You can cover text and add your own on top, which handles most corrections. Reflowing existing paragraphs is not supported - PDFs store text as positioned glyphs, not editable flowing text.
Is redaction actually secure?
Yes. The text objects under the redaction are removed from the file, so the content cannot be recovered by selecting or copying. A black shape drawn in other tools can often be deleted to reveal what is underneath.
Do my annotations open correctly in Acrobat?
Yes. Highlights, notes and shapes are written as standard PDF annotations that any conforming reader displays.
Can other people edit my annotations later?
By default yes, since they remain live annotation objects. Run Flatten PDF afterwards to bake them into the page.
