About This Tool

Faded text is the usual reason to reach for this. An old fax, a carbon copy or a scan of a pencil-written form comes through as pale grey that is legible on screen at 200 percent zoom and unreadable in print. Pushing the text to solid black fixes it in one pass.

The other reason is presentation. A document produced in one house style needs to match another, or a section needs its text in a colour that signals its status.

The change applies to text objects only. Images, backgrounds and vector artwork keep their colours, so a recoloured document does not lose its diagrams or logos.

How to Use

  1. Load your PDF

Drop in the document whose text you want to change.

  2. Pick the new colour

Choose from presets or enter a hex value. Solid black is the right answer for faded scans.

  3. Choose the scope

Recolour all text, or restrict to a page range if only part of the document needs it.

  4. Apply and download

Check the preview and save the updated PDF.

Use Cases

Rescuing a faded fax

Grey text that vanishes on a printout becomes solid black and legible on paper.

Matching a house style

Body text moved to the brand colour so a supplied document does not look out of place in a pack.

Accessibility contrast

Light grey body text raised to a contrast ratio that meets accessibility guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this affect images?

No. Only text objects are recoloured. Photos, diagrams and logos keep their original colours.

Can I recolour only some of the text?

The tool works page by page rather than word by word. For a single phrase, cover it and add new text with the PDF Editor instead.

What about text baked into a scan?

Text inside a scanned image is pixels, not text objects, so this tool cannot reach it. Run OCR first, or adjust the image contrast.

Is the change reversible?

Not within the new file. Keep your original if you may want the previous colour back.
