About This Tool
Scan a stack of single-sided paper in duplex mode and half the output is blank. On a 120-page batch that is 60 pages of nothing, doubling the file size and making the document tedious to read.
Finding them by hand is the worst kind of work, and scanned blanks are rarely truly blank - they carry faint grey speckle, a dust line, or a shadow from the edge of the sheet, so a naive test for pure white finds nothing.
That is what the threshold controls. It sets how much ink a page can have and still count as empty. Start at the default, review the detected list, and raise the threshold if pages you consider blank were not caught. Nothing is removed until you confirm the list.
How to Use
Load the scanned PDF
Drop in the file. Every page is analysed for content coverage.
Set the threshold
The default catches clean blanks. Raise it for noisy scans where blank pages carry speckle.
Review what was found
Detected pages are listed with thumbnails. Untick any that are not actually blank.
Remove and save
Delete the confirmed blanks and download the shorter document.
Use Cases
Cleaning up a duplex scan
A 120-page batch scan of single-sided paper drops to 60 real pages.
Removing chapter fillers
A print-ready file has blank versos so chapters start on the right. Strip them for screen reading.
Tidying archived documents
Years of scanned files carry blank separators. Clear them before ingesting into a document system.
Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as a blank page?
One whose ink coverage falls under the threshold you set. That deliberately includes scanner noise, faint shadows and dust specks.
Could it remove a page I wanted?
A page with only a faint watermark or a single line of light grey text might be flagged. That is why you review the list with thumbnails before anything is deleted.
Does it detect blank pages in native PDFs too?
Yes, and more reliably than in scans - a page with no content objects at all is unambiguous.
What threshold should I start with?
The default works for most clean scans. Older or dustier documents usually need it raised a step or two.
